Kevin Spacey‘s name made rounds in the press recently as he is facing four counts of sexual assault in the UK. Spacey, who has been out of action in the industry since 2017 on account of several other sexual assault allegations, has made no comments on the matter as of yet.
The Crown Prosecution Service, which is the primary agency dealing with criminal prosecution in England and Wales, reported that three men had filed sexual assault cases against Kevin Spacey.
“He has also been charged with causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. The charges follow a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation,” said the head of the Crown Prosecution Service.
The charges come amidst Spacey’s return to films after a long time, with his new film, “Peter Five Eight,” premiering a trailer at the Cannes Film Festival.
Previously, Kevin Spacey was on the receiving end of sexual assault allegations in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp said that Spacey had made sexual advances on him while drunk at a party in 1986. Anthony Rapp was 14 at the time while Kevin Spacey was 26 which made it not only an incident of sexual assault but also of Child abuse. Spacey took to twitter to apologize for what he termed as just, “inappropriate drunken behavior,” however, later in 2020, Anthony Rapp sued Kevin Spacey for sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress under the Child Victims Act.
The controversy thickened when Spacey came out as a homosexual on the same day that Rapp made the allegations. Several gay Hollywood celebrities were outraged at this, including Billy Eichner, from Billy On The Streets, George Takei and Wanda Sykes. The celebrities claimed that Spacey was merely using the announcement to draw attention away from Rapp’s allegations. The outrage was also over the fact that Spacey’s comments linked homosexuality to child abuse. Following the allegations, several people from the set of House Of Cards also came forward with similar stories about Spacey.
At the moment, the Crown Prosecution Service continues its investigations. Producers of, “Peter Five Eight,” have shown their support to spacey in the time of these charges.
