According to the Deadline medium, the actress and singer Jennifer López have begun to produce the series Backwards in Heels with Amazon Studios. A story that will focus on life around the iconic New York building, the Barbizon Hotel. The project has passed through several hands. After some tough negotiations, it will be taken over by the streaming service, the superstar, and Skydance TV, alongside fellow producer Julie Goldstein.
Backward in Heels will narrate the lives of various characters who live in a post-World War II Big Apple, around the hotel located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Built-in 1927 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982, the Barbizon Hotel was the home of many young professional women who headed to the city over the years. These few walls became the long-term home of many of its inhabitants.
One of the most curious features of the building is the concern around women’s safety, men being prohibited from going up to the first floor. The Barbizon was a strict hotel in many ways, from zero tolerance for men to a strict code of conduct and proper dress. Great stars of classic cinema have passed through its rooms, such as Betty Buckley, Lauren Bacall, Joan Crawford, and Rita Hayworth. That is why this place hides some of the best stories that have been lived on the streets of New York, which will make Backwards in Heels a real-time machine for viewers.
López has stood out in the industry for her figure as a singer and actress. However, for some years, she has usually participated in the production of her projects since in 2006, she made her debut in the position with The singer, the biopic of the artist Héctor Lavoe, starring Marc Anthony, who was her partner at the time. Over time, she found in the romantic comedy a vein that connected her directly with her legion of fans, with the surprise two years ago of her performance in The Wall Street Swindlers, a title that earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in the Golden Globes. His latest premiere was Marry Me, a new love story in which he stars alongside Owen Wilson and the singer Maluma.
We still don’t know when Backwards in Heels will stream, but filming is expected to begin later this year or early 2023.
