If there is anything that’s clear by this point, it’s that 2020 was a strange year for a lot of people, including celebrities and people who work in the entertainment industry (among many other industries as well).
For instance, it was reported during the beginning of the lockdowns that NBCUniversal had to shut down around 35 of their productions due to COVID-19 restrictions. At the time, governments didn’t know what they were dealing with, so they chose to lock things down.
It goes without saying that a lot of people, especially those of us who are less fortunate, were disproportionately affected by the pandemic, and negatively, as well. It even affected Eddie Murphy, who had big plans to return to stand-up comedy.
Followers of the legendary comedian know that Eddie Murphy had full intentions of returning to comedy as a stand-up, in fact, he and Arsenio Hall also have a new movie coming out called Coming 2 America, the sequel to the original that was a huge hit for both actors.
During his appearence on Kevin Hart’s SiriusXM Radio Show, Comedy Gold Minds, Eddie shared with the host that he had full-on plans to finish up the 2019 movie, Dolemite is My Name, SNL, Coming 2 America, and then he was going to come back to comedy.
In other words, the comedian-turned-actor had a significant change of plans, like many others in the entertainment industry. Regarding his SNL appearence last year, Murphy appeared on the show in December of 2020, which marked the first time he had been on since the late 1980s.
Eddie went on to say that he had plans to go back to the comedy clubs once everything goes back to normal again, but for now, his plan is to just wait. As fans of the legendary comic know, Murphy became a massive star in the 1980s with the specials Raw, Delirious, before he finally became a big star in the Hollywood scene.
However, he had a series of movies that weren’t appreciated by critics or audiences, which some have speculated is the reason why he stepped away from the business for a while.
