Taraji P. Henson has a Facebook Watch show which is focused on mental health in the Black community. From dealing with touchy subjects like suicide to encouraging guest and viewers to seek therapy — Henson and her guests are bearing it all.

When her 26-year-old son’s father was stabbed to death when he was only 9-years-old, Taraji didn’t know how to tell him the news so she said that it was an accident. However, he ended up finding out the truth and that was when the actress took him to therapy.

While telling the story on her series, she was visibly upset recalling the situation.

‘My son’s father was suddenly taken — murdered — when he was 9, and I didn’t know how to tell him that. I couldn’t tell him he was murdered, so I told him he died in an accident.’

She broke down in tears as she revealed: ‘Later on in life he found out and he came back to me and was like, ‘Why didn’t you tell me my daddy was murdered?’ And so then we had to get therapy.’

She questioned therapist Sierra Hilsman how do you break such shocking news to a child who responded that it is all about the language she could have used.

Henson went on to admit: ‘It was in the paper and I didn’t know how to tell him. He was stabbed to death, it was the worst way you could die. I just didn’t have the words. I didn’t know how to tell a 9-year-old.’

This was the same episode of Peace of Mind with Taraji that rapper Asian Doll appeared on where she addressed her relationship with her late boyfriend King Von and finding out that he was shot to death in what seems to be a dispute that went left in Atlanta.

Although it is traumatic for Taraji to recall such hard times in her life, it’s great to see her helping others focus on healing.
