The beloved 1987 film The Princess Bride is getting a quarantine-style reboot for the new streaming service Quibi. Starting on June 29, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas – plus a star-studded cast of players – will begin releasing chapters of the movie remake everyday for two weeks.
According to The New York Post, Juno director Jason Reitman is at the helm of this project after staging live readings of The Princess Bride script. Each cast member filmed their specific scenes of the remake at home using their phones, and the actors trade off roles throughout the film.
Filmmaker @JasonReitman made the inconceivable happen—with help from @JackBlack, @PattonOswalt, @common, @TaikaWaititi, @ActuallyNPH, and Sophie Turner (and more): "The response was kind of immediate and fast. It was like, ‘Oh—that sounds like fun.’” https://t.co/8FYfUCjxGn

This allows each actor to present The Princess Bride in their own unique way. In addition to Turner and Jonas, the cast also includes couples Common and Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, and Chris Pine and Annabelle Wallis.
Other big names attached to the Quibi project include Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Elijah Wood, Jon Hamm, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, Jack Black, Zazie Beetz, Taika Waititi, Diego Luna, Josh Gad, Patton Oswalt, Andy Serkis, David Oyelowo, and Keegan Michael Key.
An added bonus of the project is that the original director of The Princess Bride – Rob Reiner – is playing the role of “The Grandfather,” and Fred Savage is reprising his role of “The Grandson.”
There will be even more creative changes to the story. Lego figures and stuffed animals will be used in crowd scenes, Jonas and Turner’s corgi plays the “Rodent of Unusual Size,” and the parents-to-be also gender-swap the roles. This means that in some scenes, Jonas will play the role of Princess Buttercup, while Turner will be Westley.

Quibi is a new streaming service that features only short-form content, which is why they will be releasing short chapters of the movie everyday for two weeks instead of all at once. In the name of this unique project, Quibi has donated $1 million to chef José Andrés’ charity World Central Kitchen to provide meals to those affected by COVID-19.
As for Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, they recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary, and the couple is preparing for the birth of their first child.
