If you’re even slightly familiar with the WWE, the  name The Undertaker will definitely ring a bell. The iconic wrestler has just announced he is retiring after three decades in the ring.

Undertaker, whose real name is Mark Calaway, said in a newly released documentary that he has no desire to get back into the ring.

He reflected: ‘If Vince was in a pinch, would I come back? I guess time would only tell there. In case of emergency, break glass, you pull out The Undertaker. I would consider it. At this point in my career, I have no desire to get back in the ring. I’m at a point, it’s time this cowboy really rides away. There’s nothing left for me to conquer or accomplish. The game has changed. It’s time for new guys to come up. The time just seems right. This documentary has helped me discover that and opened my eyes to the bigger picture and not judge myself as harshly these last few years.’

The WWE seemingly confirmed his exit with a tweet that read ‘Thank You Taker.’ This announcement was extremely bittersweet for fans and immediately started trending on social media.

While many are grateful that the 55-year-old dedicated so much of his life to the franchise, others are wishing the dead man walking would never leave the game.

1990 – 2020. #ThankYouTaker for 30 years of entertainment. I started watching wrestling at 5 years old, and I still remember seeing Undertaker roll his eyes back and how scared I was. But as I got older the character grew on me, and he became my all-time favourite,’ wrote one viewer.

Another added: ‘This series was an incredible watch, and gave such a great insight. One of the best watches on the @WWENetwork Thank you @WWE for making it possible. Thank you for everything @Undertaker A wrestling great and my personal all time favorite. #TheLastRide #ThankYouTaker.’

This Twitter user said: ‘The Undertaker literally raised me. He should not be allowed to leave. This is a sad day for all wrestling fans no matter if you liked him or not.’

‘NOTHING LASTS FOREVER. As sad as I am now, I felt this moment would arrive. I am so glad and honored that I got to see The Undertaker wrestle live twice in the WWF squared Circle. Great memories. It IS his time to hang up his boots. Whoever doesn’t agree is WRONG!’ said another.

The Last Ride documentary is available to stream on the WWE Network.
